Revitalise your smile by repairing cavities & decay in your teeth with Dental Fillings.

What is Dental Filling?

Dentists use fillings to repair cavities in your teeth. The dentist first removes the decaying portion of your tooth using specialist tools. The hole is then filled with a hard, tooth-like material which protects the tooth and allows you to chew as normal. A dental filling is a quick and pain-free procedure which can help you avoid more serious procedures, like a root canal or extraction.

Why Choose Billericay Dental Care?

We offer patient-focused, affordable fillings for our patients in Billericay and the surrounding areas. We offer a range of treatment options to suit your budget. You can choose from amalgam metal fillings for a cost-effective treatment, or you can choose from tooth-coloured white fillings to create a more natural look. If you have amalgam fillings and you are unhappy with how they look, we can replace them with white fillings to boost your confidence. Throughout the procedure, you will be cared for by a team of skilled clinicians and dental assistants.

The Filling Procedure

The first step in this type of restoration is to completely numb the area. A numbing cream is applied to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. After a few minutes, your dentist will check that the anaesthetic has taken effect. You may feel pressure throughout the procedure, but you should never feel pain.

Next, your dentist will use specialist tools to remove the decaying portion of your tooth. They will use something known as a dental handpiece to clean out the cavity while a dental assistant uses a suction device to remove any debris from your mouth.

When the area is completely clean and free from decay, your dentist will prepare the filling material. There are two types of filling material: amalgam and composite. Amalgam is very strong and grey in colour. Composite is designed to match the colour of your teeth. Amalgam is mixed by a machine and then pressed into place. White fillings use a mixture of priming agent and bonding material which is cured (hardened) with a light.

After the filling material has been placed in your tooth, your dentist will then ensure that your bite is restored. They may ask you to bite down naturally to help shape the material. Rough areas are filed away to make sure you are comfortable.

Fillings Procedure For Children

The procedure for children is exactly the same, but we may spend a little more time explaining things and keeping them distracted. We understand that dental procedures can be scary for little ones, which is why all of our staff are trained to help keep nervous patients at ease.

Over time, bacteria builds up on every tooth in your mouth. And every time you eat something, particularly something sugary, it’s feast time for the bacteria. When they’ve finished eating, they produce a very strong acid that starts eating away at your tooth.

Every time you brush your teeth or floss, you get rid of a lot of that acid. But some will remain and if you don’t brush your teeth twice a day and have a low sugar diet, the acid on your teeth can build up and eventually cause the dental

The best thing you can do to prevent cavities is to visit the dentist every 6-9 months. You should also brush and floss twice a day. Removing sugar from your diet and avoiding snacking between meals can also help to prevent cavities. And finally, a trip to the dental hygienist can also help to prevent cavities.

If you are worried about being in pain from keeping your mouth open for so long, there are steps we can take. A bite block is a soft rubber triangle we’ll put between your lower and upper teeth so that your mouth stays open. This is an option for longer procedures.
